How My Neighbor Stole Christmas (cringe pr0n)

 


This was one of the hot new novels for christmas season 2024. All the tiktok and insta folks were a flutter, telling people how it was sooo good, and just the next good thing for the ladies.

Sooo, copy attained and copy listened to.

There were some things here that were great, others which were cringey, sticky, and I really should not have been surprised.. but I was.

First- I really liked the narrator. he jobially introduced each chapter, actively broke the 4th wall and spoke to us as readers/listeners. All if it in rhyming prose.

Second- I don't truely understand why everything in this novel is christmas related. It was a christmas town, dedicated to the xmas season, How anout the rest of the year? so confused.

Third- The story was fun, I was feeling some holiday movie romcom vibes, then. BANG BANG BANG semen and other fluids everywhere. Things got uncomfortable fast. My wife and I had to shut a door so the kids wouldnt become privvy. This went on for something like 40 minutes and then periodically for the remainder of the book.

The whole xmas theme is ultimately a reason to talk about the main dudes package/gift/trouser snake.

Good book, but don't go in blind or an unexpected load x30 is what you will get.

Blood and Tacos - Penetrator ManKill and others kick ass content

Blood and Tacos issue 1 is pretty awesome folks. You can read it for free at  bloodandtacos.com Alternately, if you want a copy you can save and keep forever and ever, it is for sale on Amazon for a whole dollar. $0.99 cents of glory. In a nutshell, it has a series of short stories that are written to appear as if they were long lost relics of the manly man era of pulp fiction. You know the time frame… we are talking chest hair, mullets, cheesy one liners, blood, fist fighting. All the things that make a Charles Bronson film awesome and the Joe Don Baker movie “Mitchell” so damn terrible (awesome). Current issue includes work by Gary Phillips, Matthew C. Happy Policeman (Patricia Anthony)

Back in the summer of 2010, I decided to see about curbing my book spending, and instead work on reading books already on my shelves. This was an obvious failure, when I was on the Powells Books website and found a bargain Sci-fi bin of books for about a dollar. I bought seventeen books and have been slowly working my way through them. Patricia Anthony’s ‘The Happy Policeman’ was in that pile of books. I am not sure how this ended up in the dollar bin. Turns out, this book was incredible, worth far more than the dollar I paid for it. I bought it sight unseen, had no idea what the novel was about, but the cover art painted by Mark Smollin caught my attention, the title was unusual and the book became mine. THIS BOOK WAS NOT ACTUAL SCI-FI. Do not auto-ignore this book if you are a genre snob, you may be missing out.
