McCARTNEY + MORISSETTE USE ALIASES TO FOOL PIRATES + THIEVES

McCARTNEY + MORISSETTE USE ALIASES TO FOOL PIRATES + THIEVES thanks for telling us, now we know what to look for........... http://www.contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.nsf/mndwebpages/mccartney_-_morissette_-_use_-_aliases_-_to_-_fool_-_pirates_-_thieves McCARTNEY + MORISSETTE USE ALIASES TO FOOL PIRATES + THIEVES SIR PAUL McCARTNEY, FAITH HILL, ALANIS MORISSETTE and DEPECHE MODE are among the huge acts using aliases in a bid to make sure their new albums get to critics at newspapers and magazines. Music industry bigwigs fear the bigger stars' preview albums are being swiped by interns and pirated weeks before their release dates. So, McCartney's upcoming album has been credited to PETE MITCHELL, while Hill, Morissette and Depeche Mode are sending out their albums as FERN HOLLOWAY, ARTHUR MOORE and BLACK SWARM respectively, according to the Los Angeles Times. Publicist MITCH SCHNEIDER, who represents both Morissette and Depeche Mode, says, "It is really a practical thing for...

New updates to the Replymail website

http://replymail.ne1.net http://replymail.sitesled.com Changes include: multiple new submitters 130 or so new cards many new "heavy envelopes" a whole new site format and CSS encoding basically a whole rewrite.. it looks similar but it is a whole new beast.. dialup users should beware, but i have tried to keep stuff  as minimal as functionally possible for all users to enjoy.. let me know what you think! FEEDBACK WELCOME! positive and negative.. seriously.. the next update will include a full rewrite to push it onto a larger server with scripting on the back side.. this will make the whole thing run great as it will be able to dynamically bring the content forward instead of having clumsy menus and slower load times.. but i want to incorporate many suggestions into it.. i am thinking of even implementing a comment system to allow people to give feedback on specific items directly

platinum record with strange properties

original article: http://www.kempa.com/blog/archives/001013.html August 24 / Playing a Platinum Record Valentine, you see, OWNS a platinum record. He's taken it upon himself to play it and determine what exactly the grooves of a default platinum record contain. Clearly, this is awesome. Collapse "I have a story I thought you might be interested in. Long story short is that I used to be in a cheesy Christian band (regrettably) and we had a single that was on a double-CD compilation. This comp sold 250,000 copies and since it contained two CDs the RIAA certified it platinum. I have possessed a platinum record for the past six or seven years. I had it hanging over the toilet in my bathroom. Anyways, last Saturday my friends and I busted it out of the frame and put it on a turntable. You might be interested to know these facts about the record: * The hole in the middle was the size of the hole in the middle of a CD. * There is extra space around the outside of the record that ge...

just thoughts in my head needing to come out

i find the idea of friends only posts or private posts confusing and backwards. i dont know that i will keep this post up (or for how long)... chances are i wont..   this entry is mainly for myself, there are no links or funny jokes in here, in fact, its fairly depressing so dont click the cut if you dont want it. Collapse Many of my friends are aware that my mom is going through some issues with the big C. She flat out isnt going to get better and is just taking it day by day until she will eventually succumb to it. Recently, she started having more issues with her lungs. They were filling up with fluid and needed to be emptied fairly often. the doctors, in an attempt to help her did some fairly twisted stuff that appears to have a positive effect and will hopefully make her more comfortable for a while. They keep saying that she is having a "good day" but when i talk to her, i dont hear the good.. this isnt cynicism.. it is the reality of hearing someone you love holding ...

From the Himalayan Today magazine 1993 archives   N::N    A::A M::M A::A S::S T::T E::E "Shake hands and come out fighting." It's the referee's  final counsel to two pugilists about to beat each other's  brains out with clenched fists. Even outside the ring, a  handshake can be a little off-putting. When one returns  to the West from an extended sojourn in Bharat or  elsewhere in Asia, the hand suddenly thrust forward can  seem more ominous than friendly, especially if the hand  offered is that of a stranger. Of course, one soon  acclimates and the menacing aspect of this salutation subsides. Perhaps that moment of intimidation derives from the history of the handshake. According to one anthropologist, the handshake evolved in medieval Europe, during the times of knights. It seems not all were laudable Lancelots or gallant Gallahads. More than a few would approach opponents with concealed weapons and when within striki...

Warming hits 'tipping point' Siberia feels the heat It's a frozen peat bog the size of France and Germany combined, contains billions of tonnes of greenhouse gas and, for the first time since the ice age, it is melting Thursday August 11, 2005 The Guardian A vast expanse of western Sibera is undergoing an unprecedented thaw that could dramatically increase the rate of global warming, climate scientists warn today. Researchers who have recently returned from the region found that an area of permafrost spanning a million square kilometres - the size of France and Germany combined - has started to melt for the first time since it formed 11,000 years ago at the end of the last ice age. The area, which covers the entire sub-Arctic region of western Siberia, is the world's largest frozen peat bog and scientists fear that as it thaws, it will release billions of tonnes of methane, a greenhouse gas 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide, into the atmosphere. It is a scenari...

Waving hello to electricity...plus fresh water

http:// Waving hello to electricity...plus fresh water Published: 08 August 2005 04:00 AM Industry Channel: Energy & Utilities Source: The Engineer A wave energy system that sits on the seabed could simultaneously generate electricity and produce fresh water, according to the UK company commercialising the technology. The Australian-developed CETO system has just been bought for £5m by UK investment company, Renewable Energy Holdings (REH). The CETO unit is anchored to the seabed at a depth of between 10–25m and coupled to a proprietary pump system which supplies high-pressure seawater to a conventional on-shore generator. As waves moves over the unit, they depress a disk on top of the box and transmit a force to the pump, which delivers water at almost 70 bar. It is carried ashore in a 125mm diameter pipe to a turbine, which produces the electricity. Each CETO unit could potentially produce 100kW of power. The water can also be pumped through a reverse osmosis filter on the ...

degrassi character sitings

so i was in the movie theater this weekend hanging with my girlfriend, suzuki. we were wading through a decent but not great zombie movie... "Land of the Dead' by the king of zombies himself, George Romero.. to our surprise, we realized it must have been filmed in canada (confirmed in the credits) because in the opening scene, one character who gets a lot of camera time is none other than Dean, the Bardell Rapist from degrassi next generation. needless to say, we feel he was well treated in the film... having recovered from the surprise of Dean, we were greeted later in the film by an extra in a night club. the camera had a couple really good shots of his head. i was attempting to determine why this man was so familiar when Suzuki leaned over and very excitedly advised me that it was Dwayne from DJH and DHS. ~~ I hear other degrassi sitings include Joey as a helicopter pilot in "Godzilla"...... i havent seen him in it yet but will be rewatching it when netflix kick...

California's SUV Ban

California's SUV Ban The Golden State has outlawed big SUVs on many of its roads but doesn't seem to know it. By Andy Bowers Posted Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at 11:42 AM PT Unless you drive one of the largest SUVs, such as the Chevy Suburban, the Cadillac Escalade, or the Ford Excursion, I'll bet you've watched them thundering down quiet residential lanes and wondered to yourself: Why is that monster allowed on this little street? Well, here's a surprising piece of news. It may not be. Cities throughout California—the nation's largest car market—prohibit the heaviest SUVs on many of their residential roads. The problem is, they don't seem to know they've done it. I discovered this secret ban after noticing the signs at both ends of my narrow Los Angeles-area street (a favorite cut-through route for drivers hoping to avoid tie-ups on bigger roads). The signs clearly prohibit vehicles over 6,000 pounds. I knew a 6K pound limit ruled out a lot of the larger ...

Great Article - shaded dog days

http://news.designtechnica.com/talkback63.html Shaded Dog Days Mark Fleischmann  By: Mark Fleischmann July 17th, 2005 I have a little black Halloween cat. He is 10 years old and as feisty as ever, but as luck would have it, he loves my dogs. He stares at them in fascination as they play. I’m glad they get along because I must have dozens of dogs. Shaded dogs. I’m referring to the shaded image of Nipper on the RCA LP logo, that cute little Jack Russell terrier who stares into a gramophone. The most valuable shaded dogs are RCA Living Stereo LPs pressed in the late 1950s. When in good condition, they’re worth a fortune. Audiophiles say they’re the best-sounding records ever made. Collapse The patron saint of the shaded dog is Michael Hobson of Classic Records. He remastered the Living Stereo LPs with rebuilt vacuum-tube mastering gear and reissued them on virgin vinyl. Thanks to Mike, I know exactly how sweet, smooth, and authentically musical a shaded dog can sound. I also hav...

got a book to read ;)

http://www.salon.com/books/int/2005/07/14/campbell/index_np.html "Shut up and act" "Evil Dead" star Bruce Campbell discusses Tom Cruise, idiot film executives, his hilarious debut novel -- and the joys of not being famous. "There are some people who don't know who Bruce Campbell is, and there are others who will wait hours in line just to get next to him. The 47-year-old actor's uproarious roles in horror films like "Bubba Ho-Tep" and the essential "Evil Dead" franchise -- which he created along with his high school buddy and fellow Michigan native, director Sam Raimi -- have earned him a dedicated cult following. Indeed, legions of aspiring horror-show nuts have followed Campbell and Raimi, who parleyed his own "Evil Dead" accomplishments into a career helming Hollywood blockbusters like the "Spider-Man" movies, ever since the two do-it-yourselfers first decided to produce and shoot their own films instead of wa...

soo.. friends and i went to see sin city on the big screen tonight. when i watched my illegal version at home, it was pretty satisfying, the lower quality did someting for it which made it feel more artsy and interesting. on the big screen however, it was just a terrible terrible movie.. mr rodrigruez.. not that you care, i am disappointed in your more recent films.. time for you to go back to low budget mariachi films until you get your head deflated.. you will make good films again.. like bedhead. also- finally.. i have a near mint copy of Vicious Pink's Self titled album in the mail coming to my work. can i say just one thing about it?
