request for music fans.

I am looking for Covers of songs that do not sound exactly like the original. they can sound the same but have a bad ass guitar solo or something in it and that counts. preferably, i am looking for suggestions that are noticiably different all the way through, like Living Colour's cover of "Memories Can't Wait" by the talking heads. they made it so much their own that you cant tell its a cover unless you really pay attention. really though, any suggestions of good, not precise covers would be welcome. all genre of music are being accepted. anyone who assists will reap the wealth of the final output.. more on that later :) just list the titles in comments and i will find the music myself. Hook me up people!

Halliburton

Image
(edit: 5/16/25 - moved image from photosled) WHOIS: 34.168.1.34 anyone have a clue why halliburton would be port scanning my system every 12 hours? ive looked up the port and there is no obvious program or ideas from that direction. its incoming so its not a viral issue on my part. i am guessing it is some form of web survey but out of all the standard scans that occur every day, this one doesnt make any sense based off the info i have. additional information would stave my curiousity off for a bit

leaked

the new tool album has been leaked. all major torrent sites should have it, watch out for fakes, look for the major seeds and read comments to ensure a good download. as always make sure you are running peer guardian or something. DEAR GOD ITS GOOD! i will be loving it when i can buy it :) 2 weeks!..........make sure to buy it!

review: Tool - 10,000 Days

Ok- So first things first: Make sure to buy this when it comes out. Bands like Tool deserve the cash for their work, and situations like this can show the recording industry that mp3 downloads do not have to affect record sales, so long as the record in question is quality work. If nothing else it would be nice to show Maynard that being tightfisted with his releases is not needed as his fans are of a higher caliber. ~~ Collapse 10,000 Days is different than previous Tool albums. Some people have mentioned an experimental vein that follows the whole set. I don't personally hear anything that is far enough outside the their spectrum to be considered "experimental".  -- There is a definite change in lyrical delivery. Some rattled/mumbled lyrics along with normal vocal styles were a pleasant surprise. -- Throughout, you will hear notes and riffs that are similar if not taken directly from other songs/albums. This is NOT negative. All of Tool's albums have a symbiotic rel...

Saturday, i was bitten by a beautiful woman

We were all filled with wine and other fermented beverages. Bijou was being mocked openly by me, she said I was gonna get it. While standing in Mikes kitchen, next to Suzuki, Bijou came up and bit me multiple times on the arm. I pointed out that it was not painful and she promptly took my hand and bit in like a chipmunk. Small dangly skin existed afterwards. The wound itself is small, but the memory is pleasant if not a little strange. I cant remember the last time someone drew my blood. Now it is slightly infected, painful (when touched) and pasty colored in the center... I might post a picture later. It depends on how bad it looks when I get off work. Zero infection means everyone gets a picture of a kitten instead.

feynman

you dont have to watch this (though there are visual notes), but you should definitely at least minimize it and listen to it. http://video.google.com/videoplay?… this is an excellent 49 min interview with Dr. RP Feynman, the brilliant physicist. get your geek on guys, this is not physics related, but more about human nature and how he grew up. talks a bit about drinking with other physicists, talks a little about the manhatten project.

I AM EXCITED! (aka Welcome to Hell...Marshmallow?)

someone got me thinking about the rain.

someone got me thinking about the rain. seeing the rain from the 15th floor where i work is always pleasant. it comes down in sheets as people have often described in books and movies. there is a pleasant chaos that can lull you into a comfortable sleep. you watch the interference patterns and the image of the holographic world breaks off leaving you stranded, office bound. landlocked by the corporate states surrounding you. Obviously, you can experience this from the ground as well, but having an altered height, a different perspective, and an unhindered view of the freeway nightmare people are subjecting on themselves gives me a kitschy feeling of self importance and superiority. my sleep is more fitful and deep. I am in control of my own universe and can do as i please when i please.... ....till my boss offers to fire me if i dont wake up and get back to work. spoil sport...

1st day back at work..

after almost 3 weeks gone fromt he office i have returned to a massive pile of work (all of it old), 300+ emails to filter through, and nearly dead plants. the coffee robot greeted me with black sludge love. this was one of the 300+ emails i recieved while gone, it was found to be humorous. One morning, a husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake they were visiting, his wife decides to take their boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, and takes out her book. Along comes a game warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, "Good morning, Ma'am. What are you doing?"  "Reading a book," she replies.  "You're in a restricted fishing area," he informs her.  "I'm sorry, Officer, but I'm not fishing, I'm reading."  "Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to take you in and wr...

california p2 the ungood news

well, my dad, suzuki , and i got back on friday night. we had a nice relaxing saturday which was nothing but fun.. record shopping, japanese food, bad movies, good conversation. the next day was not so good. woke up the next morning to a phone call from my brothers wife. apparently he jumped off a bridge in the middle of the night and hurt himself pretty badly. and, thats all the information we have except that he will be "ok". so after 13 hours on the road i am back in california again.. sucks cause we cant see him till mid-morning. had some good talk time with my dad...  should be home again in another week. work was good enough to not give me any shit. YAY! other than that i will post an update later when i have more time and info.. most likely not again after that till i am home. be safe everyone.

california update P1

Image
so, here is the positive (good news) update on the trip to california: read the next post for the negative (bad news) update. (friends only post) went on a trip with suzuki and my dad to visit my kid brother and his family. all in all a good time, a fun filled week of family reunion, very enjoyable as the last time we saw each other was in october when my mom died. Dan was kind enough to check in on our cat and keep my super nintendo company while we were gone, it was so incredibly appreciated as they both suffer from allergic, stress related rashes when left alone for too long. was having some camera issues before the trip and thus, some pictures were lost. my camera is ok, i found out that the Canon S2 IS digi cam i bought is NOT compatibile with the 1 gig SanDisk SD mem card i bought. the new Kodak SD card is working better and faster, not a toasted picture in the bunch (excluding user error of course) all in all the trip was fun, enjoyed myself and was glad to get back home t...
