Deck Z: The Titanic: Unsinkable. Undead - 
Besides having a long title that is confusing to punctuate, this was a fun read from Scholastic books. At a 50¢ pricepoint from the Jan's Beaverton "discounted to get them the fuck outta my store" table, it seemed like a fun impulse buy.

In a nutshell, a German scientist attempting to cure various plagues escapes from his lab before his research on a particularly nasty bug can be coopted as a weapon. He boards the Titanic to make a fast journey to America and hopefully continue his research. Shit Goes Down. Insert zombie stuff here.

DeckZ falls firmly into the Young Adult Alternate History category with a strong splash of Action and Horror. For a YA novel, it was very well written, avoiding a lot of dumbed down language as it wouldnt fit in a 1912 timeline.

Surprisingly enjoyable, if you are looking for a fast but good read at a mid to high YA range, this wont challenge you, but will not disappoint.

Plague Town (Dana Fredsti)

EDIT 05/23/12:  It has come to my attention that I failed to note this book was well written. I would like to be clear that the author is descriptive and has no trouble putting sentences together. It was only my opinion of the the plot content that I had trouble with as outlined below, and as stated, each person should make their own decision. ~~ I hate giving bad reviews but it happens. My tolerance levels are pretty high for trash fiction. When I begin reading a book, I work hard to ensure instances when I am unable to finish it are as rare as possible. I reserve the right to stop and remove myself from a bad novel, but keep this right minimally acted upon. This novel is part of the fairly exclusive club called “Books I couldn’t reasonably spend more time on” also referred to as “I can never get those minutes of my life back”.. The Space Plague (A.M. Lightner)

First published in 1966, The Space Plague is a true sci-fi classic. A.M. Lightner (later known as A Lightner Hopf) puts forward a very entertaining tale. make sure to check the full size image of the cover as the 60′s art is pretty awesome. A group of science students are hand picked to go to the planet Acoma and study the native insect population. field trips like this are rare and being chosen is a true honor. Acoma has been settled in a pioneer fashion for only a short time, so not much is known about it. Barnaby Finch and Jenny Jethro are two of those students. Finch specializes in Beetles; Jenny in butterfly’s. Shortly after their arrival, a plague breaks out in the sparsely populated southern continent. In classic Teen sci-fi manner, the students are integral in determining the cause of the plague and saving all the Acona pioneers. they dont have much choice after all, the planet is in quarantine until a solution is found.
