What the everliving fuck did I just read? Novel was titled ‘Hope Never Dies’. Judging this book by the cover, we see what looks like the poster of a buddy cop film starring Barack Obama. In the background we see Joe Biden driving a vintage muscle car while Obama stands in the T-top pointing to the future... or is it a criminal they are chasing?

I loved this book and cant help but wonder what the public figures included would say if they read it. Joe fumbles around in a purely loveable way, answering the door in his boxers and pondering the value of friends while searching for a way to kick a conspiracy in the face without screwing up his bum knee.

In this PURELY FICTIONAL pulp detective novel, Uncle Joe Biden is pulled to the backyard by a suspicious noise. Instead of a burgler, he finds Obama smoking a cigarette and bearing bad news of a long time Biden acquaintances death. Biden, dons his best Hawaiian shirt, shorts, and RayBans, teaming up with his ex-commander in chief to sift through facts, follow drug leads, carb load on hashbrowns, and rekindle the bromance that ended when they left office.

Blood and Tacos issue 1 is pretty awesome folks. You can read it for free at  bloodandtacos.com Alternately, if you want a copy you can save and keep forever and ever, it is for sale on Amazon for a whole dollar. $0.99 cents of glory. In a nutshell, it has a series of short stories that are written to appear as if they were long lost relics of the manly man era of pulp fiction. You know the time frame… we are talking chest hair, mullets, cheesy one liners, blood, fist fighting. All the things that make a Charles Bronson film awesome and the Joe Don Baker movie “Mitchell” so damn terrible (awesome). Current issue includes work by Gary Phillips, Matthew C. Happy Policeman (Patricia Anthony)

Back in the summer of 2010, I decided to see about curbing my book spending, and instead work on reading books already on my shelves. This was an obvious failure, when I was on the Powells Books website and found a bargain Sci-fi bin of books for about a dollar. I bought seventeen books and have been slowly working my way through them. Patricia Anthony’s ‘The Happy Policeman’ was in that pile of books. I am not sure how this ended up in the dollar bin. Turns out, this book was incredible, worth far more than the dollar I paid for it. I bought it sight unseen, had no idea what the novel was about, but the cover art painted by Mark Smollin caught my attention, the title was unusual and the book became mine. THIS BOOK WAS NOT ACTUAL SCI-FI. Do not auto-ignore this book if you are a genre snob, you may be missing out.
