BLOG: Comics by Ryan Andrews, Our Bloodstained Roof / Nothing is Forgotten

Just want to call out some amazing Independent work worth paying attention to.

Go spend a couple bucks buying an ebook from this guy. Put some ramen in his belly and get some good art in the process.

Our Blood Stained Roof

Ryan Andrews is an incredible illustrator and comic artist. His website, has a couple great examples of his work.

In particularly, pay attention to “Our Blood Stained Roof” which is s story of three young boys who watch a flock of geese mysteriously dive bomb to their roof and die. Their consciences get the best of them and they refuse to allow their father to move the corpses to the local dump. Instead, they opt to give them a funeral, even at the cost of facing their fathers dismay.

The illustrations are actually pretty gory/vibrant at times, and may not be fitting for the young, or even for some of the older people I know. They are bloody, as the name implies.

Our Bloodstained Roof is a little fairly chilling to read. Not that it is scary, just that it brings out emotions that are dark and sad.

Nothing is Forgotten

Second call out, give a chance to Nothing is Forgotten. NiF is geared around a young boy whose father dies, and in his sadness, he runs of into the woods where a forest spirit/creature takes pity on him. This comic contains no text, but this lack of speech does not limit the communication. I “read” this comic in bed while my wife mocked me for yelling at the characters about how unfair life is and how one should never take what is not theirs.

It goes a long way towards the quality of a work if I am yelling at my computer.

Enough said.

Go check out Ryan’s work.

Hopefully, he will put out a print form so I can have these on my shelves in a suitable format for the great work they are.

** Recycle/Edit 7/7/17:

This post was originally posted to FnordInc in 2011. It has been cleaned up and reposted in recognition that Nothing is Forgotten is now available in print/ebook formats via the creator's website which tickles my soul a little bit.

  1. Thanks for introducing these works! I'm going to check them out. When you mentioned the wordless second graphic novel, it reminded me of Shaun Tan's The Arrival.
